Koray Değirmenci completed his undergraduate education at Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Sociology in 2000. In the same year, she started her master's degree at Bilkent University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science, and completed her education with her thesis titled Economic restructuring and trade unions: The case of Turkey (2001). In 2001, he started his doctorate education in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Middle East Technical University and received his doctorate with his doctoral thesis on Turkish world music: multiple syntheses and authenticities (2008). In 2016, she conducted a 6-month post-doctoral study on the music practices of second generation Turkish immigrants in the Netherlands at the Center for Globalization Studies at the University of Amsterdam. During this period, he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Sociology at the Middle East University between 2002-2008 and at the Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst between 2004-2005. He started his duty at Erciyes University in 2009 with the title of assistant professor and now he continues as a professor. While music, photography and urban sociology can be counted among Değirmenci's main academic fields of study, he has publications in different academic journals and compilation books in these fields.
